About

Established in 2025, Wheelchair Sports Australia (WSA) supports State and Territory Wheelchair Sports organisations to deliver excellent sport.

WSA recognises the knowledge and expertise that resides in the Wheelchair Sports organisations in Australia. Since the late 1950s and early 1960s, so many tenacious, skilful and dedicated people have helped deliver Wheelchair Sport to first time participants and the world's best athletes.

These Wheelchair Sports pioneers and their organisations have created decades of great competition in Wheelchair Sport, with all the physical health, mental health and social benefits that provides. Designed with lived experience of disability at their centre, the Australian Wheelchair Sporting organisations have also been responsible for developing a significant proportion of Australian Paralympic teams since 1960, including many of our most recognisable and successful Paralympians.

Specialising in the recruitment of people with disabilities into sport building and sustainable Wheelchair Sports Clubs, these organisations across Australia now have a collective voice through WSA. We represent the State and Territory Wheelchair Sports organisations to the Federal Government, Paralympics Australia and other important stakeholders, ensuring the expertise of Wheelchair Sports organisations across Australia is utilised.

Further, WSA will work with State and National Sporting bodies with Wheelchair Sports formats in collaborative partnerships. In this way, WSA can help unlock the potential of the Australian sports system to deliver excellent Wheelchair Sport across all levels of the pathways.

WSA believes every Australian has a place in Wheelchair Sport. We support the Play Well Strategy from the Australian Sports Commission.
